Our Services

Here at Wissota Chiropractic, we take great delight in providing our patients with the best chiropractic care available.  We offer a variety of chiropractic techniques and services to fit each patient’s needs.  Below is a list of the techniques and services we provide.

Our Technology:
At Wissota Chiropractic we utilize the latest in state-of-the-art nerve scan technology to determine precisely where your nerve system may be experiencing interference. Through an individual program of education and gentle and specific chiropractic adjustments we can correct spinal misalignments (subluxations) and improve the body's innate healing abilities. Without this interference, overall wellness is maintained and improved.

The Insight Subluxation Station:
The Insight Subluxation Station offers a method of chiropractic assessment known as electromyography or Surface EMG. This method is backed by a wealth of scientific evidence including controlled studies and clinical trials.

Chiropractic Techniques

Diversified Technique:
This technique consists of specific spinal analysis to identify vertebrae misalignments (subluxations) within your spine.  The spinal analysis usually typically involves a case history, chiropractic examination, and x-rays of the spine. With each visit Dr. Jeff will analyze the spine by various techniques.  The most commonly used is he will feel the joints in the spine to identify the position and the loss of motion for each vertebral segment through motion palpation. The misalignments are corrected using a manual thrust specific to the direction, depth, and angle based on the spinal mechanics.  If a manual thrust is given, there might by a sound that is produced due to the shifting of gas and fluid in the joint.  Many people describe it as a slight “popping” or “cracking” sound.  However, not all adjustments produce this sound and it’s not to be confused with the actual effectiveness of the adjustment.

Activator:
This chiropractic technique is a very gentle, low force method of adjusting the spine. The Activator is a handheld spring-loaded instrument used to deliver a single low-force, high-speed thrust that restores motion to the joints.  The instrument is faster than the doctor can adjust by hand, which makes this technique more pleasing for those patients who tend to tighten up their muscles in anticipation of the thrust, or those who are apprehensive toward traditional adjusting techniques.  It’s also very helpful for adjusting both upper and lower extremity joints.

Multiple Impulse Adjusting Instrument:
The Impulse Adjustor is an instrument similar to the Activator, but provides an oscillating force to correct the subluxation, opposed to a single trust.  Instrument adjusting rarely produces any sound from the joint.  Many patients jokingly call it the woodpecker or the jackhammer because of the sound it makes.

Thompson Technique:
Thompson Technique uses a specially designed “drop” table to assist with the adjustment.  Multiple sections of the table are spring loaded that will rise up and drop out when the when a thrust is administered to correct the subluxation.  The speed of the drop mechanism along with the trust helps restore the alignment, improves biomechanics and restores motion to the spine.

Spinal Decompression Therapy:
Spinal Decompression Therapy is a unique treatment that uses a special table that is designed to take the weight off your spine and removes pressure from the nerves and discs in the spine.  With this technique the individual lies on the table in which a light strap is applied to the pelvis and the rib cage.  A cable is the attached to the pelvis with gently pulls and stretches your spine.  This treatment is highly effective as a non-surgical alternative for herniated/bulged discs, degenerative disc disease, sciatica, radiating pain down the arms and into the hands, post surgical back pain, and facet syndrome.

Therapeutic Modalities:
There at Wissota Chiropractic we use a number of Physiotherapies in our office to complement and boost the healing process that is taking place within the body.  Interferential Therapy, Ultrasound, Trigger Point Therapy, and Superficial Heat are some of the popular therapies in our office.

What is Ultrasound Therapy?
Ultrasound Therapy is simply high frequency sound waves above the range that we cannot hear.  It is applied to regions of the body where there is soft tissue damage from the head of an ultrasound machine.  A gel is used to help the waves travel into the body rather than be reflected off the skin.

How does it work?
Sound waves, as fast as a million times per second, penetrate the tissues deep inside the body creating a heating and vibration response.  The heat and vibrations help breakdown and disperse unhealthy material that has accumulated in that region of the body where the ultrasound is being applied.

Why is it used?
Ultrasound is used because it can be very specific and applied directly to the area of complaint penetrating deep into the body.  The rising temperature increase blood flow, relaxes muscle spasms, massages damaged tissue and speeds the healing process.

Benefits to the Patient:

  • Highly effective in treating calcium deposits and scar tissue that form after an injury.
  • Improves circulation.
  • Reduces irritation on nerves.
  • Enhances the body’s natural healing ability.

What is Interferential Therapy?

It is the use of a special type of electrical current to aid in the relief of pain and the promotion of soft tissue healing.

How does it work?
Tiny amounts of electrical impulses are put into the vicinity of injured tissues using pads strategically placed on the patient.  Where the waves intersect below the surface of the skin a low frequency electrical stimulation is created. Most patients describe the stimulation as feeling like faint “pins and needles”.  This stimulation promotes the release of natural pain killers to help relieve pain.

Why is it used?
Interferential Current is most often used to relieve pain and reduce swelling at the site of injured soft tissues.  Ligament sprains, muscle strains, and spasms often respond to this therapy.

Benefits to the Patient:

  • Reduces pain by releasing the body’s natural pain killers
  • Decreases local swelling
  • Improves muscle tone
  • Accelerates the healing process

What is a Trigger Point?

A Trigger Point is an uncontrolled area of muscle spasm causing tenderness and interference with normal muscle function.  This weakens the muscle, reduces normal range of motion within involved joints and often refers pain to other parts of the body.

How does it work?
Using the fingertips, the skin is gently palpated in search of tight muscle bans, nodules or local areas of spasm.  Once located, greater pressure is directly applied with the fingertips, thumb, hand, elbow or small hand instrument.  This pressure is sustained until the Trigger Point relaxes.

Why is it used?
Trigger Pint Therapy is highly effective for reducing muscle spasms and restoring normal muscle tone.  Once muscle tone is restored, range of motion improves and healing can take place.

Benefits to the Patient:

  • Reduces chronic muscle spasm
  • Breaks up adhesions
  • Limits scar tissue formation
  • Improves circulation
  • Improves joint range of motion

What is Superficial Heat?

Hot packs, warm moist towels, heating pads, water bottles and infrared lamps are often used to raise the temperature of tissues just below the skin surface.

How it works?
Heat applied to the surface of the skin enlarges blood vessels near the surface, soothes and relaxes muscle tissue and can temporarily relieve pain symptoms.

Why is it used?
Heat is commonly used before the chiropractic adjustment because it generally relaxes muscle tissue associated with spasm.  When used after the chiropractic adjustment it provides a calming, soothing type effect for chronic pain.

Benefits to the patient:

  • Helps increase circulation
  • Relaxes tense muscles
  • Improves join mobility
  • Prepares the patient for the adjustment
