What Is Superficial Heat?

Hot packs, warm moist towels, heating pads, water bottles and infrared lamps are often used to raise the temperature of tissues just below the skin surface.

How it works?

Heat applied to the surface of the skin enlarges blood vessels near the surface, soothes and relaxes muscle tissue and can temporarily relieve pain symptoms.

Why is it used?

Heat is commonly used before or after the chiropractic adjustment. Heat generally relaxes muscle tissue associated with spasm and call allow the adjustments to set easier. When used after the chiropractic adjustment it provides a calming, soothing type of effect for chronic conditions and for tense muscles.

Benefits to you the patients:

Helps increase circulation, relaxes tense muscles, improves joint mobility, and prepares the patient for the adjustment.
